Michael White is the Executive Director of the Assurance Projects Branch within the Australian National Audit Office (ANAO). With over 15 years experience at the ANAO, over the past four years Michael has specialised in Assurance Reviews for the Major Projects Report within the Defence Materiel Organisation and reviews of Government Advertising. He is responsible for the development and delivery of the ANAO’s program of work in response to recent legislative changes enabling the Auditor-General to undertake audits of key performance indicators as presented in agencies Portfolio Budget Statements and subsequently reported on in the agencies annual reports.

Robyn Attewell is an accredited statistician with a background in research and consulting across diverse fields including occupational and environmental medicine, drug development, public health and road safety. She joined the AFP in 2007 and coordinates performance reporting within the Internal Audit and Business Analysis branch. She is an advocate of greater use of statistical principles in the collection, analysis and presentation of data within policing and the wider public sector.

Ann has been employed with the Office of the Auditor-General as the Assistant Auditor-General, Research and

 

Development since 2004. In this role she is responsible for:

  • leading the Office’s response to changes in relation to public sector governance and accountability; and
  • facilitating and co-ordinating the Office’s research and development and product development.

 

The R&D Team works as a catalyst within the OAG to enhance existing products and develop new products in areas such as:

  • Performance improvement related to our annual audit interaction with public sector performance and financial management and reporting;
  • Increasing awareness and raising the profile of good governance practices for example public entities’ use of audit committees and detection and prevention of fraud; and
  • Analysis and integration of audit knowledge about public sector emerging and good practices.

 

Ann joined the OAG in 1999 as a sector manager in the Local Government Team. Her experience prior to joining the Office is mainly in corporate planning, research, and public policy. Before joining the Office, Ann had worked in both central and local government and policy, research, and corporate planning roles.

 

Ann has a Bachelor of Arts; a Diploma of Social Science Research and a Masters of Public Policy from Victoria University of Wellington.

Sarah Nesbitt is an Assistant Director in the Budget and Financial Management Division of the Victorian Department of Treasury and Finance. Sarah leads a team which undertakes strategic review and reform of the key financial and resource management frameworks underpinning financial management in the Victorian Public Sector. In addition to chairing an interdepartmental working group on performance management, in 2010 Sarah was Victoria’s representative on the Independent Reference Group established to oversee the review of the Report on Government Services indicator framework.

A recent performance audit by the Australian National Audit Office found that most agencies are lacking effective Key Performance Indicator Systems, reducing informed and comprehensive assessment of program effectiveness.
